WAMS Meeting Minutes, Sept. 6, 2022

A meeting of Washington Agate and Mineral Society (WAMS) was held at First Baptist
Church of Lacey on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Wendi Meador gave an update on a fossil she collected and submitted to be inspected and researched. It
will be crated and sent to the Burke museum at the University of Washington for further research.

Show and Tell:
1) Bryan- small medicine bottle of Holley blue agate from Sweet Home, Oregon.
2) Jim- Mount Saint Helens poster acquired from DNR; and a rare fossilized conch
shell from Florida.
3) Jerry- an amber specimen with an insect. Lesson on how to determine real amber
from fake. Real amber will float in water mixed with 5 tablespoons of table salt.
4) Bob- fossils collected from Mineral, WA
5) Doug- Apache tears, Montana agate, and local jasper before and after tumbling.
6) Emery and Brittany (mom) – a nice water line or water level thunderegg.

7) Gretchen- gold pan and gold panning book for give away.
8) Lisa- petrified wood slabs for cabbing, and stinking creek petrified oak wood
samples.
9) Becky- epidote self collected from the Hamma Hamma River, WA made into
cabochons.
1) Kathleen- polychrome jasper from Madagascar
2) Daniel- fossils: Megalodon tooth, Mammoth bone, etc…
3) Claudia- green stone necklace which could not be identified with certainty.

Raffle: winners chose from rough rock and a brand new spray bottle.

Report:

Program: Bryan Tallman gave an introduction to metamorphic rocks. Displayed
examples of Kyanite (dark blue) bladed aggregate, Garnet (almandine), Actinolite found
at Bluet Pass, WA, and Serpentine with its many forms and uses.
